happy Christmas

American Apparel Polka Dot Chiffon Oversized Button Up, Circus Dot
American Apparel Sweater Knit Pencil Skirt, Navy

Ouidad Expert Curl Kit
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer

Clinique Chubby Stick
Nail Tek II

My first Christmas away from home was a success. A group of fellow expats rounded together for a potluck dinner in Anyang on Christmas Eve, complete with a Secret Santa. The night ended with a couple go's at Charades and a collection of empty wine slash soju bottles.

The boyf and I spent Christmas alone in the apartment, opening presents and running last-minute errands to bag breakfast treats and ingredients for our meal, which consisted of spaghetti carbonara and herb chicken. I also swayed him to watch While You Were Sleeping with me... a Sandra Bullock holiday classic, of course. I was glad to Skype with my brother and to see his reaction as he opened his gift from me... a personalized Taylor Swift mug that read, "Kevin Rocks!"

Hope everyone else is having a fab time celebrating the holiday :)

sixties remake

I think if I could've lived in any film, it would A Single Man. It's directed by Tom Ford, so it's no wonder why it's a stellar visual collective of all things gloriously sixties. Fitted suits with pocket squares, cigarette holders, and Edie Sedgwick-inspired makeup. I would so love it if everyone continued the trend of dressing up on the daily. Instead of donning bouffants or taking the time to mold pin curls, we slick our two-day hair back in a messy bun or ponytail. Or in my case, I keep a bottle of dry shampoo handy for those mornings where I not only feel ultra lazy, but want to stretch it to a 3 or 4 day maximum... excuse me while I hide in my corner of shame.

On another note, this is also inspiring me to do some true thrift/vintage shopping and snag some unique finds for when I secure a permanent apartment back in Chicago.

for reverend green

(Zara polka dot top, ASOS scarf, River Island herringbone skirt, Aldo boots)

I couldn't help but snag something for myself while out Christmas shopping this past weekend. 'Tis the season of giving, right? I have such a fixation with polka dots; I need to find a new love, as this one should be retired.

My students made me cards/posters filled with holiday warmth and cheer. I'm going to miss this a ton when I become State-bound in March, for it's the little things that make you feel truly appreciated. Part of me wishes I could stow all of them away in a magical Barney bag of some sort and take them with me. If anyone knows where I can get my hands on one, email me stat :)

suffer for fashion

boots & boys

A little pre-Christmas gift to myself. I've had my eye on these since forever. The comfort level isn't as superb as I was hoping (or maybe I just haven't broken them in yet), but fashionability trumps quality for the time being.

white winter hymnal

9 days before Christmas and I've failed to complete my gift shopping. I'm not really one to be all joy to the world this time of year, but hearing all the holiday songs playing in Myeongdong yesterday took me back to working in retail where they trumpeted Christmas tunes immediately after Halloween. Thus, my attempt to lift me from my Scrooge-like mentality.

1. The Killers - A Great Big Sled
2. Low - Just Like Christmas
3. Leighton Meester - Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home)
4. Madonna - Holiday
5. Coconut Records - It's Christmas
6. Best Coast/Wavves - Got Something For You
7. Beach House - I Do Not Care For the Winter Sun'
8. The Raveonettes - The Christmas Song
9. Summer Camp - Christmas Wrapping

apartment story

Against my public vow (as posted on my Twitter) to go on a shopping strike until further notice... I caved and purchased the above scarf and blue polka dot skirt from H&M this past weekend. In my defense, the skirt was purchased in attempt to replaced a beloved piece that had a tragic mishap with the iron as soon as I arrived here. The scarf... well, is something I guarantee will fulfill its cost per wear.

I'm really missing home this week due to the holidays, but I've managed to work Thanksgiving into my lesson plans. Thus, I wanted to dress appropriately. I love rich colors this time of year. and I broke out the bow flats because it's usually what I do when I want to feel ultra feminine.

Hope everyone has a safe and fantastic holiday!

cold dust girl

(UO denim shirt, H&M oversized grey sweater, Nasty Gal velvet leggings, Express herringbone scarf, Steve Madden boots, ASOS earrings)

Hello, lethargy. I woke up this morning with the indications of a slight sore throat coming my way. It could be all the strain on my voice I've been abusing from keeping my 6th graders in check. Yesterday happened to be a whirlwind of calamitous circumstances after the other, so I'm soaking in my freedom to be lazy this weekend. At this point, I just want to lounge in oversized clothing and leggings forever. However, I will break out of the comfort of my little Korean apartment to have dinner in downtown Uij and get my Brad Pitt on to see Moneyball.

change of heart

(Express shirt, ASOS heart-printed skirt, AA Circle Scarf, Aldo boots, tights, vintage bracelet)

I just received this skirt in the mail earlier this week, and I la-la-love it. I have another chiffon midi skirt stashed away in my closet that I can't seem to fashion correctly, therefore this is only my second attempt at the trend. It's still a work in progress. I'll continue to play around with it as I finish listening to the no. 1's of The Supremes.

what have you done for me lately

So, my addiction to singing reality tv shows (hay, Sing-off) has me reminiscent of old Janet videos. I had totally forgotten about this song until recently... not to mention the styling in this video, in true 80s fashion, of course. It's also my favorite Janet era; it trumps The Velvet Rope slash 90s days. Although Halloween just passed, this is giving me ideas for next year.

Must find a gold lamé shirt to add to my wardrobe of impractical purchases.
